Climate Change and Carbon Emissions: Understanding the Global Challenge

Climate change is no longer a distant concern. It is already affecting communities across the world in many visible and serious ways. Rising global temperatures, irregular rainfall patterns, long periods of drought, unexpected floods, melting glaciers, and extreme weather events are becoming more frequent than ever before. These environmental changes are not only affecting natural ecosystems but also creating serious challenges for agriculture, water availability, human health, and economic stability.

One of the main causes of climate change is the rapid increase in carbon emissions. Carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are released into the atmosphere through various human activities. When these gases accumulate in the atmosphere, they trap heat from the sun and prevent it from escaping back into space. This process is known as the greenhouse effect, and it leads to the gradual warming of the planet, commonly referred to as global warming.

The majority of carbon emissions come from activities such as burning fossil fuels for electricity and transportation, industrial production, large-scale farming practices, and deforestation. Vehicles, factories, power plants, and the widespread use of coal, oil, and natural gas release enormous amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every year.

These emissions mainly come from human activities such as:

• Industrial production and factories
• Transportation including cars, trucks, and airplanes
• Deforestation and land clearing
• Burning fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas

When these activities release large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, they disrupt the natural balance of the Earth’s climate system.

Over time, this imbalance leads to environmental problems that affect agriculture, water availability, ecosystems, and human health.

Carbon markets are one of the strategies developed to reduce these emissions. By putting a value on carbon pollution, these markets encourage industries to take responsibility for their environmental impact.
